Romanian lawyers are not divided into solicitors and barristers as in the UK, they are simply referred to as “lawyers” and must be a member of a formal Bar – one of these is established in each city or county in Romania. Lists of members of each Bar are published but it may also be more useful to go by personal recommendation, particularly where it is important to be able to communicate with the lawyer in English or another foreign language. Although Romanian lawyers deal with court advocacy and also transactional and consultancy work such as conveyancing, in practice some lawyers may specialise more in one area of work than in others.
